Our Freedom: Then and Now

Commissioned by Future Arts Centres through the Socially Engaged Photography Network, this project documents nine venues across the Northeast for Our Freedom: Then and Now, a national arts programme marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day. It draws on the people who use and sustain the region's arts centres and libraries, dancers, veterans, writers, young people and refugees, to build a body of portraits exploring what freedom means to communities here today. The work treats portraiture as a way of witnessing freedom's contested, fragile, fought-for nature in Britain now. The show has toured 19 venues nationally, having opened at the Southbank Centre in March 2026.
